Ain’t no mountain high enough – I’m finally traveling up Spring Mountain to the beautiful LOKOYA property owned by Jackson Family Wines to meet some friends for a Sunday tasting. A huge rainstorm in the spring that knocked a tree down prevented me from going before, so now I’m back and ready to taste!

Lokoya produces 4 ultra-premium wines from 4 different properties in Napa Valley. Winemaker Chris Carpenter oversees the production for each of the labels, all sourced from their respective mountain sites – Diamond Mountain, Mount Veeder, Spring Mountain, & Howell Mountain. The wines have received high praise from critics, including a whopping SEVEN 100 point scores from Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate for their Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain wines. The wines are intensely structured, age-able, and distinctive, with each reflecting the respective terroir’s of each wine. While aging is recommended, the wines are certainly pleasing in their youth with sufficient decanting time.

A Ruinart Champagne greeting from Jose our estate host set the right tone for this top-notch hospitality experience which begins in a space designed by renowned architect Howard Backen. A huge rainstorm and a fallen tree We all hopped on the golf-cart to tour the spring mountain vineyard, taste some fruit, and get a better feel for the sprawling property which Yverdon and Terra Valentine called home until 2013 when Lokoya purchased it. Once back at the estate, we relaxed in front of the four current release wines paired with small curated bites.
